The reason Google decided to name the Android series after delicious desserts is a bit of an office in-joke. In fact, a lot of companies are on in on it too:
Microsoft uses city names and Apple christens new editions after big cats. But why puddings? A Google spokesperson admitted they like to be “a bit inscrutable” – and if you notice, the releases follow an alphabetical order, from Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat and Lollipop.

Google have always been great advocates of creativity and, sure enough, by running an open-source operating system, they have effectively encouraged a much wider range of developers to create apps and downloads for the Android platform – which arguably means a more diverse and creative selection.
