LG was founded in 1958 and it produced South Korea's first consumer radios, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners. LG was originally an abbreviation for "Lucky Goldstar", and it was not until more recently that the company associated its tagline "Life’s Good" with the letters LG.

In the 1990s LG added mobile phones to their range, and two decades of experience later the company has grown to become the fourth-largest supplier of mobile phones worldwide, selling millions of phones a year.

2007 saw the real breakthrough for LG in the mobile phone industry. With the release of the LG Viewty, LG rocketed into the tight-knit group of respected phone brands with reported sales of over 400,000 Viewty phones in the first five weeks!
