Originally known as GoldStar, LG was founded in 1958 and it produced South Korea's first consumer radios, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners. In the 1990s mobile phones became a part of the range and the company has grown to become the fourth-largest supplier of mobile phones worldwide, selling millions of handsets a year.

2007 saw the real breakthrough for LG in the mobile phone industry. With the release of the LG Viewty, LG rocketed into the tight-knit group of respected phone brands with reported sales of over 400,000 Viewty handsets in the first five weeks! From there they've just got better and better with the LG Prada that won the Mobile Choice Fashion phone of the year and the LG KM900 Arena, which combines the best of the two previous handsets.

LG is renowned and respected for its combination of stylish design with smart technology, but although they produce some pretty appealing handsets, they don't always get there as fast as other manufacturers. This is, however, far from negative for the consumer – it actually means that you get fabulous features usually found in premium-priced phones, but at a much more attractive price.

LG was originally an abbreviation for "Lucky Goldstar", and it was not until more recently that the company associated its tagline "Life’s Good" with the letters LG.
