With stylish looks that even the HTC Touch range would envy, it would be understandable to think that the 3 Samsung S5600 Preston is a hugely expensive high-end phone. The truth, however, is quite different - the Samsung S5600 is a mid-range touchscreen phone, aimed at the new 'affordable touchscreen' market, and comes with a great suite of features hidden beneath its sleek shell.

Dominating the face of the Samsung Preston is the large 2.8" TFT capacitive touchscreen. This is powered by Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, first seen in the S8300 UltraTOUCH, and has had an upgrade to bring in some new features that make using the phone and navigating the menus very straightforward indeed. A brand new idea on the S5600 is 'gesture lock', which allows the user to unlock the phone and open a menu or program simultaneously just by drawing a particular symbol on the screen - very nice.

The Samsung S5600 has a 3.2 megapixel camera - complete with LED flash, smile detection, and A-GPS geo-tagging - and can also make 3G videocalls. The Preston has most of the best connectivity options currently around, including super-fast HSDPA internet, stereo Bluetooth, USB, and quad-band support for making calls from almost anywhere in the world. Another neat extra is the turn-to-mute feature, which uses the accelerometer to mute the phone whenever you place it face down, making it quick and easy to reject a call.

Despite its high-end looks, the Three Samsung S5600 Preston is actually a fantastic option for touchscreen fans who don't want to spend much money. With a brilliant set of features there is hardly anything left wanting, and at such a low price point the Samsung S5600 really is a winner.
